Some people who have taken medicine like ATRIPLA have developed
the following:

A serious condition called lactic acidosis (buildup of an acid in the blood)

Serious liver problems called hepatotoxicity

A "flare-up" of hepatitis. If you have HIV-1 and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and you stop taking ATRIPLA, you may get a "flare-up" (a sudden worsening) of your hepatitis

Starting on ATRIPLA

It's the beginning of a fresh start now that you and your healthcare provider have chosen ATRIPLA, which is three meds in one pill daily.

ATRIPLA is a prescription medicine that is approved for use alone as a complete HIV regimen, or in combination with other anti-HIV medicines, to treat adults with HIV-1 infection.

Deciding to begin HIV therapy requires a strong commitment. You must be ready to take your HIV medications exactly as your doctor directs. If you miss doses, HIV could become resistant to the medicines you are taking over time. This means your medicines could stop working for you.

What are some tips to help you remember to take your medications?

Never stop taking your medication without first talking to your doctor.

ATRIPLA does not cure HIV-1 and has not been shown to prevent passing HIV-1 to others.

Ask your doctor if ATRIPLA is right for you, and see your healthcare provider regularly. Individual results may vary.
